My go-to immunity boosting tea
A simple and easy tea for when you're feeling under the weather or sick
Cold and flu season arrived early this year, which means I’ve been sharing my go-to immunity-boosting tea with many of my clients lately—and they’ve been loving it!
What’s great about this tea is its simplicity. It’s made with ingredients you likely already have in your pantry, and if not, they’re easy to find.
I reach for this tea whenever I feel under the weather. It’s perfect for soothing a sore throat, warming you up, and giving your immune system a boost. Everyone I’ve shared this recipe with has loved it, and I hope you do too!
Ingredients
2-3 garlic cloves
Filtered water (you’ll be boiling this)
Juice from 1/2 large lemon (or 1 small lemon)
1-2 tsp local raw honey or manuka honey
Instructions
Crush the garlic cloves so that they flaten slightly, but don’t entirely break apart (you can do this by smashing them between two spoons or with the side of a large knife on a cutting board) - they should smell fragrant and feel a little sticky after doing this
Add them to a tea strainer or place them directly into your favorite mug
Bring water to a boil and pour it over the garlic cloves
Cover the mug with something to keep the heat in and let the garlic cloves steep for 10 minutes
Once ready, remove the garlic cloves from the mug and add the lemon juice and honey to the tea
Give it all a nice stir and taste to make sure the flavor is palatable—add more lemon juice or honey, if needed
Sip and enjoy!
Save this recipe to have on hand for the next time you or one of your loved ones is feeling under the weather or sick and give it a try!
Additional Home Remedies for When You’re Feeling Under the Weather
Here are some of the other home remedies I lean on throughout cold and flu season:
Homemade Chicken Soup - the actual recipe I use is from THIS cookbook, but the recipe linked is quite similar just with the addition of Israeli cous cous.
Classic Elderberry Syrup - this is great to make at the start of the colder months to have on hand for when a cold or flu strikes. I also like to take it preventatively throughout the colder months and especially when I know I might be more exposed to whatever is going around.
Liposomal Vitamin C - the one linked is the one we use most in our household, but there are lots of other liposomal Vitamin C’s out there.
Intuitive Eating - while this is something I always strive to practice, I find it especially important when I’m feeling under the weather. If I’m hungry, I eat. If I’m not, I give myself a break and focus on hydration. The body knows what it needs and sometimes that’s a specific kind of food or giving the digestive system a break while the body uses the energy for other important processes.
Prioritize Rest & Reduce Stress - it’s surprising how often I need to remind my clients to take it easy when they’re feeling under the weather. Many people are eager to jump back into their regular routines as soon as they feel a bit better, only to find themselves feeling unwell again. Remember, giving yourself time to rest and truly recover is an investment in your long-term well-being. Taking those sick days now ensures that you can return to your routine stronger and more resilient.
Homeopathic Remedies - there are times when homeopathic remedies can be very helpful in supporting the body as it recovers from a cold or flu. The key is selecting a remedy that closely matches the individual’s specific symptoms. As you do your own research, you’ll likely find that many remedies can be helpful in cases of colds or flu. However, selecting the right one depends on how the symptoms uniquely manifest in each individual (learn more about that HERE).
Flower Remedies - it’s not uncommon to get sick when you’ve been overly stressed or surpassing your body’s need for rest. It’s also not uncommon to feel heightened stress and emotional states when sick. Flower remedies help provide comfort and stress relief when in recovery mode. Try THIS classic all-purpose stress blend or seek professional support for a custom blend that specifically addresses your unique system - book a session with me HERE.
